Türkiye hosts discussions on importance of Zangezur corridor

The Centre for Strategic Studies at the Caucasus University of Türkiye convened discussions in Kars, focusing on the "Geopolitics of the South Caucasus and the Zangezur Corridor."

Azerbaijan's Consul General in Kars Nuru Guliyev, Rector of Caucasus University, Professor Husniu Kapu, scientists, experts and students of the university took part in the discussions, Azertag reports.

The rector of Caucasus University drew attention to the strategic significance of the Zangezur corridor, the opening of which will contribute to strengthening Türkiye's ties with friendly and brotherly countries.

"The new corridor is important for the entire Turkic world. This route will reduce transport costs, become a powerful incentive for international and regional trade, and strengthen historical and cultural ties between peoples," stated the rector of one of the leading universities in eastern Turkey.

The head of the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission in Kars Nuru Guliyev also addressed participants at the event, shedding light on the significance of the Zangezur corridor.

"With the opening of the corridor, cargoes from Istanbul will be delivered in a short time to Kars and Iğdır, and further to Azerbaijan. There will be an opportunity for uninterrupted freight traffic both by road and railway transport," the Azerbaijani diplomat stated.

He stressed that part of the Zangezur corridor passes through the historical lands of Western Azerbaijan, where Armenia is located.

The sides exchanged views on the influence of certain states, including Russia and Iran, on the processes in the Caucasus region.

The socio-economic significance of the new transport route for the region was discussed.
