Expert: Armenia needs to commit to constitutional change

According to Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the Board of the Center for Analysis of International Relations, Armenia is unlikely to amend its Constitution in the near future.

Shafiyev mentioned that Armenia has initiated preliminary steps towards constitutional change, with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also expressing intentions in this regard, Caliber.Az quotes him as saying in an interview with local media.

"Perhaps these changes will occur next year, but pinpointing an exact timeframe is challenging," he remarked.

Shafiyev emphasized that any agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia should be founded on fundamental principles, with provisions for Armenia to commit to constitutional reform. He suggested that such commitments should be documented first in basic principles, followed by additional agreements.

"It's crucial that Armenia makes specific commitments regarding constitutional changes. These commitments should be stipulated in foundational documents before any further agreements are reached," Shafiyev concluded.
