Analyst: Demarcation, delimitation not to be included in Azerbaijan-Armenia peace treaty
Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the board of the Centre for Analysis of International Relations (AIR Centre), has said that it remains difficult to name the exact date of signing the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
"Azerbaijan's goal is a peace agreement with Armenia, we are very close to it," Shafiyev said at a press conference on the AIR Centre results of 2023, Report informs.
"The process of demarcation and delimitation takes a very long time, so this issue will not be included in the document. With Russia, this process took 25 years, and part of the border with Georgia is still undefined," Shafiyev said.
According to Shafiyev, it has become very difficult to publish articles in foreign publications.
“This year we have encountered biased positions.”
He noted that some institutions with which AIR Centre cooperated refused to publish articles without explaining the reasons.
"Nevertheless, 130 articles were published in foreign editions in 2023," he said.
"We have always observed the two-faced policy of the Armenian government towards us. In May, Pashinyan said he recognised Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan's territory, and in September he sent a letter to the 'president' of the separatist regime.”
He said Armenia is now waging war against Azerbaijan through the media.
"The diaspora plays a certain role in this. There are differences between the diaspora and the Armenian government. But the Armenian government also plays a certain role in this," he added.
Shafiyev called the opening of the Armenian consulate in Tabriz a political step.
"I believe that opening of the consulate exactly in Tabriz is some kind of message for Azerbaijan. But I don't see any danger in it. There are some problems in relations between Iran and Azerbaijan. However, relations are improving, so I would not want to speak too negatively. At the same time, the question arises to what extent Iran is determined to improve relations with Azerbaijan as soon as possible and thoroughly," Shafiyev said.
