Ancient Azerbaijani carpet goes on display in France

The French city of Toulouse will host on October 23 a demonstration of a carpet woven in Azerbaijan more than 150 years ago.

The carpet will be exhibited by amateur Laurent Consul, who has been collecting carpets for over 20 years, according to Report.

“I became interested in kilim carpets during my first trip to Türkiye in my youth. Then I began to study them in more detail. At first, I started buying small fragments, but then I expanded my assortment,” Consul said.

His collection includes more than 100 carpets with various ornaments, including an Azerbaijani handmade carpet dating back to 1870, once bought by Consul in Türkiye for 350 euros,

“The value of a carpet is related to its age, rarity, and originality,” the collector explained.
