Wildfires erupt across liberated Azerbaijani territories, forests threatened
A series of wildfires have erupted across the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, affecting multiple villages and forested areas.
Fires have been recorded in the villages of Yukhari Yaghlivend, Jamilli, and Divanallar in the Fuzuli district, as well as in the town of Hadrut in the Khojavend district, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The situation in Hadrut is particularly concerning, as the flames have spread into a forested area, raising fears of further environmental damage. Firefighting units and emergency response teams from the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) in the Jabrayil, Beylagan, and Khojavend districts have been mobilised to the site to combat the blaze.
Earlier reports from the Ministry confirmed that a wildfire had broken out in open mountainous terrain near Yukhari Yaghlivend. In response, a helicopter from the MES Aviation Unit and personnel from the State Fire Protection Service were dispatched to assist in containment efforts.
On July 22, wildfires erupted across Azerbaijan’s liberated territories, particularly affecting the Aghdam and Aghdara districts. The fires started in open areas near several villages, including Aliaghali, Yeni Garalar, and Sirkhavand. Rapid response teams from the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), supported by helicopters and specialised firefighting units, were deployed to contain the blaze.
Despite successful control of some fire zones, the complex mountainous terrain has hindered full extinguishment, allowing flames to persist in several areas. Reinforcements from neighbouring districts have joined ongoing efforts as multiple villages and forested lands remain at risk. Emergency services continue to battle the fires amid challenging conditions to prevent further spread and damage.
