Ankara declares Syria’s security inseparable from Türkiye’s

13 October 2025 10:23

Ankara views Syria’s security as inseparable from its own, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated on his official X page.

As reported by Caliber.Az, Fidan’s remarks followed a high-level meeting on security cooperation held in Ankara, attended by National Defence Minister Yaşar Güler, head of the National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) Ibrahim Kalın, and their Syrian counterparts — Foreign Minister Hassan al-Shaibani, Defence Minister Muharram Abu Qasr, and the head of Syrian intelligence Hussein al-Salameh.

Fidan reaffirmed that Türkiye would continue to stand by Syria in ensuring its security. “We do not see Syria’s security as separate from Türkiye’s security. We will continue to provide our Syrian brothers with full support along this path,” he said.

According to him, both delegations agreed to deepen cooperation to safeguard the progress achieved in Syria. “We agreed with our Syrian brothers to strengthen close coordination and cooperation in order to preserve and advance Syria’s achievements,” Fidan noted.

The discussions also covered possible joint steps aimed at maintaining Syria’s territorial integrity and reinforcing its overall security, with both sides conducting a detailed assessment of specific plans in these areas.

The Turkish foreign minister emphasised that the Syrian government possesses the will and determination to overcome the severe challenges it currently faces. He added that comprehensive dialogue between Türkiye and Syria has continued at all levels “since the Syrian people regained their freedom.”
