One of the female bison imported into Azerbaijan has given birth to a male cub.
Arzu Babayeva, a representative of the Biological Diversity Protection Service of the Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry, made the remarks, Caliber.Az reports.
The bison was imported to the country as part of the project by the IDEA public association, the Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry and the Azerbaijani office of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) aimed at reintroducing and increasing the bison population.
Babayeva noted that the baby bison born on June 21 is the cub of one of the animals imported into the country in 2020, thus, the number of bison born in Azerbaijan has grown to six. The baby is healthy, he has already adapted to the conditions of the terrain and joined the herd.
"In accordance with the Cooperation Agreement signed by the IDEA public association and the Shahdag National Park, 12 heads of bison were imported from Europe to the territory of the Shahdag National Park in May 2019, and five more heads of bison in 2020, in order to restore the number of bison and their reintroduction in our country," Babayeva stressed.
