Armenia sends to court files on damaged monument to Karabakh separatists
The Armenian Investigative Committee has unveiled the details of the case about vandalism against bas-relief to the Armenian war criminal, the occupier of Azerbaijani lands during the first Karabakh war Leonid Azgaldyan.
According to the investigative bodies, 59-year-old Karen Khachatryan, after midnight, drove his car to a fountain at the intersection of Khorenatsi Street and Mashtots Avenue to drink water on April 13, 2022, Caliber.Az reports citing the Armenian media.
Noticing that there was a monument nearby, he picked up a hammer near the armature and hit it several times.
According to the files of the case, damage worth 3.5 million drams (more than $7,000) was caused.
The man was charged with causing damage to state property and was released on an undertaking.
The preliminary investigation has been completed, while the case with the indictment has been sent to court.
War criminal Azgaldyan was involved in the Armenian separatist movement in Karabakh from the very beginning and took an active part in the ethnic cleansing of the Azerbaijani population and the occupation of Azerbaijani villages and cities. He was killed by Azerbaijani servicemen in the Aghdere district on June 21, 1992.
