Iran executes man over alleged Mossad links and protest role
Iran executed a man on Saturday, April 25, over alleged ties to Mossad and his participation in anti-government protests in January, AP reports, citing the judiciary’s Mizan news agency.
Erfan Kiani was the latest in a series of executions carried out in Iran following the war and a wave of nationwide protests.
Kiani had been convicted on charges that included attacks on security forces in the city of Isfahan in January.
According to the agency, he had been on a “mission for Mossad,” though no evidence was provided to support the claim.
Human rights activists have long said that Iran conducts closed-door trials in which defendants are not given adequate opportunities to defend themselves.
In recent months, authorities have carried out multiple executions of individuals accused of espionage, as well as protesters and people alleged to have links to an Iranian exiled opposition group.
