Armenia to avoid confrontation with Russia, PM says
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia will refrain from taking any steps that could harm the interests of Russia, while maintaining a policy of balanced engagement.
According to Armenian media cited by Caliber.Az, the remarks were made during a meeting with voters as part of Pashinyan’s election campaign.
“In our relations with Russia, we will not make any abrupt moves. I have friendly relations with the President of Russia. Since 2018, we have held about 200 phone conversations. Our attitude toward Russia is very warm,” Pashinyan said.
He emphasised that Russia holds the status of a superpower and should be treated accordingly.
“I treat Russia, its president, and the head of the Russian government in this way. I tell them that we have not done and will not do anything to harm Russia’s interests. But we also cannot place our interests below Russia’s interests. This is a legitimate position. But we will not enter into confrontation with Russia; dialogue at the highest level will continue,” he stated.
