Armenian PM emphasizes reciprocity as foundation for Trump Route agreement
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that mutual reciprocity must serve as the fundamental basis for any agreements pertaining to the Trump Route, during a government briefing following a cabinet session.
Pashinyan clarified that discussions between the parties have so far focused only on broad principles, with detailed negotiations yet to take place, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
He stressed the importance of a deliberate national decision on whether Armenia is willing to allow the transit of its military personnel and equipment through the Nakhchivan exclave.
“We must ask ourselves whether we want our troops and weapons to pass through Nakhchivan or not,” Pashinyan said. “Once we decide that we do want weapons transported by rail through Nakhchivan to Mehri, we will commence negotiations on this matter. If we decide otherwise, we will adhere to the relevant framework.”
The prime minister further emphasized that any considerations regarding the opening of communications corridors and the implementation of the Trump Route must be evaluated within the framework of five previously announced guiding principles.
