Armenian PM warns about certain risk of conflicts
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that as the border with Azerbaijan is not delimited, there is a certain risk of conflicts.
“We start [delimitation] from the places with the highest probability of conflict to minimise this risk. The situation must remain under control,” Pashinyan said in an interview with Armenian journalist Petros Ghazaryan on the Public TV company, Caliber.Az reports.
“This is a long process. We are creating a package for border delimitation based on the Almaty Declaration. The process must begin somewhere, and then we will send the document for parliamentary approval, and then we will continue the whole process, according to this mandate,” he said.
He noted that during the delimitation process, the Armenian government set the task of adopting a principle that would create legal grounds not only for restoring the border in individual sections, but also for the entire border between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“Our country will have to make decisions that will be of decisive importance in the coming years. If we can maintain our statehood, sovereignty and independence during this period, then the Republic of Armenia will continue existing as an independent state over the next decades. We are witnessing this,” the prime minister added.
