Armenian Speaker says no need to mention Karabakh outside of Azerbaijan in peace treaty
Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan said future peace treaty with Baku should not include the provision saying that Karabakh should not be part of Azerbaijan.
The journalist asked the speaker to comment on the words of the representative of the Karabakh separatists David Babayan that in the future peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku there should be a clause according to which Nagorno-Karabakh should not be part of Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports referring to the Armenian media.
“I don't think that there should be such a mention in a possible peace treaty to be signed by Armenia and Azerbaijan. This may cause a mirror requirement. Secondly, Armenia has never had territorial claims against Azerbaijan. And the indication of the territories will only complicate and, possibly, turn into nothing a possible peace treaty,” Simonyan said.
According to him, Karabakh should be independently involved - and it is involved - in all discussions.
Earlier, Secretary of the Armenian Security Council Armen Grigoryan stated that Armenia and Azerbaijan intend to sign a peace treaty by the end of the year.
According to him, the agreement will regulate relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and on the part of Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenia continues to negotiate both with partners and with all interested players.
