Iran to continue consultations with IAEA on nuclear programme
Iran has agreed to resume consultations with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), following a visit by the agency’s deputy director general, Massimo Aparo, to Tehran, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said.
“We have decided to continue consultations based on the topics discussed during the meeting,” Gharibabadi told an Iranian news outlet.
He also criticised the IAEA for failing to fulfil its obligations amid recent attacks on Iran by Israel and the United States.
As a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Iran permits the IAEA to conduct inspections to ensure its nuclear facilities are used solely for peaceful purposes.
However, following the United States’ withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal in 2018, Iran began to scale back its commitments, including increasing uranium enrichment levels and stockpiles.
Since then, IAEA inspections of Iran’s nuclear sites have been restricted. In June 2025, Tehran temporarily suspended its cooperation with the agency.
