Azerbaijan advocates for NAM's access to medical services
Azerbaijani Health Minister Teymur Musayev said that an important issue for countries participating in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is to ensure that every person has access to medical services.
The minister made the remarks during his speech at the 76th session of the World Health Assembly, as Caliber.Az was informed in the press service of the ministry.
Musayev congratulated the leadership and staff of the World Health Organisation (WHO) on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of its establishment.
He emphasized that NAM stands ready to work with the WHO to deal with the long-term effects of the SARS-COV-2 pandemic.
“The movement has been instrumental in strengthening global efforts to address the effects of the pandemic. Thus, the UN Human Rights Council adopted the Resolution 'On ensuring equal, timely and universal access to vaccines against COVID-19'. The NAM highly appreciates the efforts of countries that have provided vaccines against COVID-19,” he added.
Besides, the minister emphasized the importance of the Summit of the Contact Group of the Non-Aligned Movement at the highest level to combat COVID-19, held on March 2, 2023, in Baku at the initiative of the Azerbaijani president.
It was noted that member states of the NAM are committing themselves to universal health coverage in order to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. This includes preparedness for health emergencies as well as a coordinated and comprehensive response.
In conclusion, Musayev expressed hope for the solidarity of all countries in raising the level of preparedness for pandemics in the future.
