Azerbaijan aims to host prestigious figure skating tournaments
Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Winter Sports Federation Gunel Badalova has said that Azerbaijan plans to bid for major international figure skating tournaments in the future, following the expansion of ice rinks in the country.
“The new ice arena in Baku meets all standards and is suitable for hosting significant competitions,” she said, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Badalova provided details about the upcoming Grand Prix stage scheduled for 2025 in Azerbaijan.
“The preparation process has not yet begun. Submitting the bid to host the Grand Prix in Azerbaijan and making a final decision amid fierce competition has been a lengthy process, requiring the preparation of essential documentation,” she noted.
The Grand Prix stage will be held at the Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert Complex in Baku from September 24 to 27, 2025, with around 150 athletes expected to participate from over 20 countries.
