As part of Azerbaijan’s 2026 training plan, the Azerbaijan Army held the opening ceremonies for its Judo, Greco-Roman, and Freestyle wrestling championships.
The events began with a tribute to the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country, followed by the performance of the Azerbaijani national anthem by a military band, Caliber.Az reports via the Defence Ministry.
Officials verified the composition of participating teams and briefed athletes on competition objectives and safety protocols. Chief judges for all three disciplines were formally introduced.
Competitions commenced on the first day after weight categories were confirmed, with both individual and team matches taking place. A total of 297 athletes from 11 teams are competing across 10 weight categories in each sport.
