Azerbaijan awards cash prizes to COP29 volunteers for their contribution
The COP29 volunteer coordination team has said that volunteers of the COP29 conference, held in Azerbaijan, were awarded monetary bonuses.
According to a decree by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, each volunteer involved in organising the event will receive a certificate of appreciation and a cash award, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Volunteers who received certificates between January 8 and 14 can collect their bonuses by presenting their ID at any Kapital Bank branch.
The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) officially began in Azerbaijan on November 11.
The conference ran until November 22 and was a landmark event in the global fight against climate change. Azerbaijan was selected to host COP29 during the plenary session of COP28 in Dubai on December 11, 2023, due to the country's extensive experience in organising high-profile international events.
Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, welcomed approximately 70,000 international guests, including political leaders, environmental experts, and representatives from the private sector and civil society. The COP29 Presidency of Azerbaijan has announced the agreement of the Baku Finance Goal (BFG), a new commitment to channel $1.3 trillion of climate finance to the developing world each year.
Success on the COP29 Presidency’s top priority for the UN Climate Summit represents a significant uplift from the previous climate finance goal of $100 billion and will unlock a new wave of global investment. The core of the new goal is the commitment of developed countries to allocate at least $300 billion annually for climate projects in developing nations. This figure is three times higher than the previous target of $100 billion set earlier.
