Azerbaijan delegation joins ICESCO conference in Kazan
The 15th General Conference of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation is being held in Kazan on May 13–14, bringing together officials and experts to discuss key priorities in cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
An Azerbaijani delegation led by Minister of Culture Adil Kerimli is taking part in the session, the country’s Ministry of Culture told Caliber.Az.
The opening ceremony featured remarks by Rustam Minnikhanov, head of the Republic of Tatarstan, alongside ICESCO Director-General Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik and international cultural heritage specialists.
Participants are reviewing ICESCO’s strategic plan for 2026–2029, as well as the organisation’s budget and future directions for cooperation among member states in cultural and humanitarian fields.
During the conference, AlMalik was unanimously re-elected as Director-General of ICESCO following the nomination of his candidacy.
The program also includes the official launch of “Kazan-2026: Cultural Capital of the Islamic World,” highlighting the city’s role in promoting cultural exchange within the Islamic world.
