Azerbaijan detains three trespassers on Iranian border
The Azerbaijani State Border Service has detained three Afghan citizens while attempting to violate the state border with Iran.
On June 2 at around 22:00, the border guards detained three Afghan citizens Hevad Asadzia Gabibulrahman, Feyzi Abdulbasid Abdulzahir, and Habib Mutullah Abdulmatin while attempting to cross the state border from Iran into Azerbaijan, in the service area of the Lankaran border guard detachment of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports, citing the agency.
Operational-investigative measures are underway in the case.
The majority of drugs smuggled into Azerbaijan arrive in the country from Iran. Drug supply measures are mainly connected with the activities of law-enforcement agencies in the fight against the illicit trafficking of drugs.
According to Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's research, the following major drug trafficking routes that traverse the territory of Azerbaijan have been identified:
- Afghanistan - Iran - Azerbaijan - Europe;
- Afghanistan - Turkmenistan - Azerbaijan - Europe.
