Azerbaijan discusses progress of local water projects with EBRD
On November 12, Asgar Alakbarov, Advisor to Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy held an online meeting with Nataly Mouravidze, Head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) office in Azerbaijan, to discuss the implementation of water projects in the country, including in the city of Ganja.
Together with colleagues from the Azerbaijan Investment Company, Alakbarov reviewed the progress of these projects and related plans with Mouravidze. Alakbarov shared details of the meeting on his LinkedIn page, Caliber.Az reports.
“The meeting focused on the implementation progress and future plans for projects in water supply and solid waste management in Azerbaijan, including in the city of Ganja, which participates in the EBRD’s ‘Green Cities’ program,” Alakbarov noted.
The parties exchanged views on initiatives aimed at improving urban water infrastructure, enhancing the efficiency of water supply, and strengthening waste management systems.
“These areas are of great importance for providing sustainable public services and improving the quality of life for residents,” he emphasised.
Azerbaijan has been an EBRD shareholder since 1992, with the bank investing over €3.7 billion across 150+ projects by 2025, focusing on private sector growth, energy transition, and municipal infrastructure. Recent collaborations align with Azerbaijan's Socio-Economic Development Strategy 2030 and COP29 commitments (hosted in Baku in November 2024), prioritising green financing and climate resilience.
