Azerbaijan expects French Senate to react to petition
Azerbaijan is expecting the French Senate's reaction to a petition that has been addressed to it, Aykhan Hajizada, Foreign Ministry’s spokesman, has said.
“We are waiting for a reaction to our compatriots' petition and their fair dissatisfaction from the French parliamentarians, who say that they are always sensitive to public opinion,” Hajizada emphasised, Caliber.Az reports.
He made the remarks in response to a question from local media representatives regarding the appeal that was placed on the prominent Mesopinions.com petition website in opposition to the anti-Azerbaijan draft resolution by the French Senate.
"As seen, the initiative put forward by a group of our compatriots voluntarily to protest against the unfair treatment of our country has received wide support in a short time," the spokesman stressed.
"According to the information, not only Azerbaijanis living in France but also our compatriots from other countries supported the initiative with their signatures. These steps are an example of the solidarity and cohesion of our compatriots. It is encouraging that this petition has received stronger support compared to other petitions posted on the mentioned portal. Despite this, France has not yet reacted to this petition of Azerbaijanis as compared to other petitions which have received fewer votes and have less significance," he added.
On November 15, the French Senate is scheduled to discuss the draft resolution against Azerbaijan. Many Azerbaijanis were upset by the resolution's text, and a protest was launched against it on the respected Mesoopinions.com petition website.
The petition, which was addressed to the French Senate, the administration, and the people, quickly gathered about 110,000 signatures.
