Azerbaijan extends heartfelt congratulations to brotherly Türkiye on Victory Day
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry extended warm congratulations to Türkiye and the Turkish people on Victory Day, celebrated today.
In a social media post, the ministry stated:
"We congratulate Türkiye and the brotherly Turkish people on Victory Day! On this momentous day, we honour the memory of the martyrs who gave their lives for the independence of our brotherly country, and we proudly celebrate the historic victory achieved thanks to the indomitable strength and will of the Turkish people. Happy holiday!"
A day earlier, on August 29, a commemorative ceremony was held at the Memorial to Turkish Soldiers in Baku, attended by officials and dignitaries from both Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Birol Akgün, members of the Turkish embassy, and Azerbaijani and Turkish officials participated in the event, laying a wreath at the memorial, followed by the playing of the national anthems of both countries.
The delegation also visited Martyrs’ Alley and the Memorial to Turkish Soldiers, placing additional wreaths and flowers to honour the fallen.
Victory Day in Türkiye, observed on August 30, marks the decisive triumph of the Turkish army under Mustafa Kemal Atatürk at the Battle of Dumlupınar in 1922.
The victory ended the Greek occupation of Anatolia, concluded the Great Offensive, and became a turning point in Turkish history, celebrated as a testament to the resilience and determination of the Turkish people.
