Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has said that Azerbaijan is implementing initiatives to develop regional transport.

He made the remarks while addressing a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers on October 12 in Kyrgyzstan, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

The minister emphasised the beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and the CIS member states in various fields, including economy, trade, investments, transport, communications, sports, humanitarian sphere, education and other spheres, the ministry said.

Bayramov stated that the joint events contribute to cooperation and development of relations, and spoke about the work carried out to hold the sports event in Ganja, where the third CIS Games will be held in 2025. The participants have been informed that 2025 is marked by the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism in World War II, and in this context, the adoption of a plan of events to be carried out by Azerbaijan, which made a great contribution to this victory, is supported.

He noted the importance of such meetings in terms of discussing the prospects for a multilateral cooperation, spoke about the important role of regularly organised political consultations within the CIS, and expressed confidence that the plan of consultations for next year will make a positive contribution to the development of relations.

The minister noted that the geographical location of the CIS member states creates ample opportunities for the development of transport corridors. Azerbaijan is implementing initiatives to develop the regional transport sector and communications, in particular, it is working to improve the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which contributes to the development of the East-West corridor, develop the Alat Free Economic Zone, accelerate the potential of the Baku International Sea Trade Port, the opportunities created for investors.

A number of documents were adopted as a result of the event.
