Azerbaijan joins Turkmenistan's top 3 gas customers
Turkmenistan, the largest seller of natural gas in Central Asia, increased its gas production by 6.9 per cent and its exports by 12.6 per cent in 2023.
The country sold its gas mainly to China, but also to Russia, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, producing a total of 80.6 billion cubic metres of gas in 2023, Caliber.Az reports citing Turkmen media.
The figures were released at a government meeting where President Serdar Berdimuhamedov spoke about the importance of industrial development of the super-giant Galkynysh gas and oil field and the participation of foreign companies in the exploration and development of the national sector of the Caspian Sea.
The head of state also ordered to keep focusing on building the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline.
