Azerbaijan leads natural gas exports to Türkiye despite slight decline in 1H24

28 August 2024 19:54

Azerbaijan exported 5.68 billion cubic meters of gas to Türkiye during the first half of 2024, according to the Turkish Energy Market Control and Regulatory Authority (EPDC).

This figure represents a 6.3% decrease compared to the same period in 2023. Despite this decline, Azerbaijan's gas exports to Türkiye saw a significant boost in June 2024, with 996.95 million cubic meters delivered - a 34.06% increase over June of the previous year, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

In June, Azerbaijan retained its position as the leading natural gas exporter to Türkiye, accounting for 43.07% of all natural gas imported by Türkiye during that month.

Overall, Türkiye imported 2.31 billion cubic meters of natural gas in June 2024, marking a slight 0.75% decrease from the previous year. Of this total, pipeline gas constituted 1.95 billion cubic meters (84.27% of total imports, an increase of 4.3%), while liquefied natural gas (LNG) made up 364.1 million cubic meters (15.73% of total imports, a decrease of 21.2%).

Gas supplies to Türkiye in June 2024 originated from four countries: Azerbaijan, Russia, and Iran via pipelines, and Algeria via LNG.
