Kyiv praises Baku’s role in energy security, seeks expanded oil, gas cooperation

Ukraine and Azerbaijan are engaged in ongoing discussions aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sector, said Ukrainian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Yuriy Husyev.

Speaking to reporters, Husyev highlighted the natural alignment between Azerbaijan’s expanding role as a key energy supplier to Europe and Ukraine’s efforts to diversify its energy sources in the wake of severing ties with Russian fuel, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

“It is evident that Azerbaijan, as a producer of oil and gas with a growing footprint in the European energy market, and Ukraine, which has decisively moved away from Russian energy dependency, are both keen to intensify this cooperation,” the ambassador noted.

He went on to underscore the critical support Azerbaijan has extended to Ukraine, particularly in the area of energy security.

“Azerbaijan continues to deliver vital assistance in the form of energy equipment necessary for rebuilding our power infrastructure, which has suffered extensive damage due to Russian strikes,” Husyev stated.

The ambassador also praised Azerbaijan’s consistent diplomatic and humanitarian support for Ukraine since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. He reaffirmed that the relationship between Baku and Kyiv goes beyond short-term interests and is rooted in longstanding strategic partnership.

“Ukraine and Azerbaijan have maintained a strategic partnership for many years. This partnership is not only politically significant but also historically grounded in mutual respect and enduring friendship,” he concluded.
