Azerbaijan names flag bearers for Paralympic Games closing ceremony in Paris
The flag bearers for the Azerbaijani delegation at the closing ceremony of the Summer Paralympic Games in Paris have been determined.
Paralympic champions Said Najafzada and Lamiya Valiyeva will proudly carry the national flag during the event, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The closing ceremony is set to begin this evening at 22:30 Baku time at the Stade de France stadium.
Azerbaijan was represented by 19 athletes across 7 sports in the 2024 Paralympic Games. The team concluded its participation with an impressive total of 11 medals: 4 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze.
The gold medalists include Imameddin Khalilov (para-taekwondo, 70 kg), Said Najafzade and Orkhan Aslanov (both long jump, categories T12 and T13 respectively), and Lamiya Veliyeva, who set a world record in the 100m sprint. Valiyeva also secured a silver medal in the 400m race.
Other Azerbaijani medalists were Raman Salei, who won silver in the 100m backstroke and two bronze medals in the 100m freestyle and butterfly events. Bronze medals were also claimed by Sabir Zeynalov (para-taekwondo, 58 kg), Vali Israfilov (100m breaststroke), and Ilham Zakiyev (para-judo, +90 kg).
