Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar discussed strengthening strategic cooperation and addressing regional security concerns, including the rising tensions between Israel and Iran.
The talks took place during the 51st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's X page.
The ministers reviewed the current state of bilateral and multilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan and exchanged views on the upcoming OIC summit set to be held in Azerbaijan next month. They also discussed the planned transfer of the OIC chairmanship in 2026.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for its assistance in evacuating Pakistani nationals from Iran amid recent hostilities.
The Council of Foreign Ministers is the principal decision-making body of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), comprising foreign ministers from its 57 member states. It convenes regularly to address political, economic, social, and cultural cooperation among Muslim-majority countries. The council focuses on critical issues facing the Islamic world, such as regional conflicts, humanitarian challenges, and efforts to promote peace and stability.
The 51st session, held in June 2025 in Istanbul, brought together representatives to review ongoing initiatives, plan future activities, and coordinate collective responses to pressing challenges. A key topic on the agenda was preparation for the upcoming OIC summit scheduled to take place next month in Azerbaijan, alongside discussions on the planned transfer of the organisation’s chairmanship in 2026.
