OIC parliamentary union session kicks off in Baku
The 20th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is underway in Azerbaijan’s capital, bringing together lawmakers and officials from across the Islamic world to discuss economic cooperation and development.
The gathering has drawn parliamentary delegations from more than 40 countries, speakers from over 10 nations, and representatives of 10 international organisations. In total, more than 400 delegates are participating in the multi-day event, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
This year’s central theme is “Promoting Sustainable and Inclusive Economic Development in OIC Member States through Parliamentary Cooperation.”
The session includes meetings of several governing and specialized bodies, including the General Committee, Executive Committee, and the OIC Association of Secretaries-General. Delegates are also taking part in discussions across committees focused on political affairs, international relations, economic development, environment, legal and cultural affairs, inter-civilisational and inter-religious dialogue, human rights, and women’s and family issues.
Participants are expected to exchange positions on key agenda items aimed at strengthening cooperation among member states and enhancing parliamentary coordination across the OIC framework.
