Azerbaijan plans to hold sports festival in Karabakh

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov has said that most of the athletes are in favour of the next festival being held in Karabakh.

Gayibov made the remarks after the opening ceremony of the "Sports Festival 2022" in Shaki District, Report informs.

He noted that this issue will be discussed within the framework of the working group in the ministry.

"Yesterday [November 17] there was a meeting with the athletes. We talked in the evening, and listened to their opinion. Everyone is waiting for the next festival. We plan to hold such a festival in Karabakh, even if not in the next, then in the coming years. There are several reasons for this too. We organized triathlon competitions in Agali. It turned out to be a really good sporting event. And we want to see more such events in the future", Gayibov said.

According to Gayibov, on behalf of the head of state, the Ministry of Youth and Sports is implementing various projects aimed at increasing the mass character of sports, the professional level of athletes.

"One of them is a sports festival among teenagers, which is being held today in the city of Sheki. Athletes and their coaches in more than 20 sports gathered here. The event takes place at the Sheki Olympic Complex and in the city. People from the surrounding areas also came to this festival. We promote sports".

The minister added that the festival will also cover other age groups, stating, that "Sport is health, and not only for young people but for everyone".
