The border guards noticed that two unknown people illegally crossed the state border of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the direction of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the territory of the Border Outpost Service of the Horadiz State Border Service near Amirzeyidli village of Beylagan District on November 20 at 17:16 (GMT+4).
The border guards fired a warning shot, the State Border Service told APA.
The border trespassers, who disobeyed orders, opened fire at the border guards, left their bags, and, taking advantage of unfavourable weather conditions and difficult terrain, fled in the direction of Iran.
As a result of search operations, over 95 kg of drugs, namely, 10.1 kg of methamphetamine, and 85 kg of opium, were revealed and seized.
The investigation is underway.
