Azerbaijan projects robust defence spending through 2029 amid regional security shifts
Azerbaijan’s projected defence and national security expenditures for 2026 are set to surpass 8 billion manats (about $4,7 billion), underscoring the country’s continued commitment to bolstering its military capabilities and safeguarding national interests.
According to budget indicators, as outlined in the draft state budget for 2026 and the medium-term expenditure framework, a total of 8.11 billion (8,110,642,200 manats) will be earmarked for defence and national security, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Azerbaijan’s defence and national security expenditures are projected to amount to 7.345 billion manats ($4,3 billion) in 2027, followed by 6.979 billion manats ($4,1 billion) in 2028, and 7.402 billion manats ($4,4 billion) in 2029, according to medium-term budget forecasts.
The allocation is based on a functional classification of budget expenditures and reflects the strategic priorities of the Azerbaijani government amid evolving regional and global security dynamics. The substantial figure signals a sustained investment in military modernization, border protection, cybersecurity, and related security initiatives.
