Azerbaijan reveals details on Lachin International Airport’s construction
The official representative of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) Valeh Amiraslanov has said that Azerbaijan was conducting mobilisation activities as part of the Lachin International Airport’s construction.
The territory of the airfield is being cleared now, according to him.
“Earthworks will begin soon. The airport is expected to be commissioned in 2024”, Report quotes Amiraslanov as saying on June 2.
The AZAL official said that the foundation of Lachin International Airport was laid on August 17, 2021, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.
Lachin airport will become the highest mountainous airport in Azerbaijan. The length of the airport's runway will be 3,000 metres, and will be able to accommodate aircraft on an apron consisting of six parking lots. The airport will receive various types of aircraft, including cargo.
All airports are usually built on flat terrain. A suitable place for the construction of the airport was the village of Gorchu in the Lachin district. The advantage of this place is that the distance from the village to the city of Lachin is just over 30 km, and to Kalbajar over 60 kilometres. Shusha city is about 70 kilometres away from the air harbour. In the future, it will be possible to use both Fuzuli and Lachin airports for traveling to Shusha.
