Azerbaijan's ambassador to France upbeat about Paris 2024 Olympics
Azerbaijan's Ambassador to France, Leyla Abdullayeva, has expressed strong confidence that the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics will mark Azerbaijan’s most successful games to date.
Her remarks came on the heels of notable victories by Azerbaijani athletes Zelim Kotsoyev and Alfonso Dominguez, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
In a recent statement, Abdullayeva celebrated the achievements of Kotsoyev and Dominguez, who secured gold and bronze medals respectively. “We have experienced the joy of our second major victory. The Olympic Games are ongoing, and such victories will continue,” she said.
Abdullayeva highlighted the significance of the day for Azerbaijan, noting, “Today is a special day for us. In addition to the gold medal won by judoka Zelim Kotsoyev, boxer Alfonso Dominguez has secured a bronze medal. We feel immense pride in their achievements.”
Kotsoyev, competing in the 100 kg weight category, triumphed in the final by defeating Georgian judoka Ilya Sulamanidze. Dominguez, who fought in the 92 kg weight category, earned his bronze medal after a successful bout against Aibek Oralbay of Kazakhstan.
“The success of our athletes is a testament to their hard work and the unwavering support of the Azerbaijani people,” Abdullayeva added. “Our athletes know that the entire nation stands behind them. We believe that Paris 2024 will be our most successful Olympics yet.”
