Azerbaijan's female basketball players secure silver medal at 3x3 Champions Cup
The Azerbaijan women’s 3x3 basketball team has won the silver medal at the FIBA 3x3 Champions Cup held in Bangkok over the weekend.
The team defeated the United States women's national 3x3 basketball team by a tight score of 22–20. Having progressed to the final match, the team lost to the Dutch team with a score of 12–21, as reported by local media outlets.
The Champions Cup is being organised by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
The 3x3 basketball style is a faster, street-style version of traditional basketball, where 3 players are per team on the court, with one substitute member. It is played on one half of a standard basketball court, with both teams aiming for the same basket. Games usually last 10 minutes or end earlier if a team reaches 21 points.
This format is also part of the Summer Olympic Games, with the gold winner of the FIBA 3x3 Champions Cup qualifying for these games, as well as the main competition event of the sport, the FIBA 3x3 World Cup and the Olympic qualifying tournament for the 2028 Summer Olympics.
