Azerbaijan's tricolour flag in Baku sets record as largest in the world
The tricolour flag of Azerbaijan flying at the State Flag Square in Baku has been included in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest flag in the world, said Spokesperson for Seaside Boulevard Department Afsana Mehdiyeva.
According to her, before the State Flag Square was closed for repairs, the record was broken due to the height of the flagpole, Caliber.Az reports.
“The flag is 36 metres wide, 72 metres long and the total weight exceeds 500 kilograms. Two days ago, our flag was officially included in the Guinness Book of Records,” Mehdiyeva said.
Notably, the flagpole in the square is 162 metres tall. The total weight of the structure is 220 tonnes. The flag is 35 metres wide, 70 metres long, with a total area of 2,450 square metres.
