Azerbaijan secures first medal at Paris Paralympics
On August 29, 2024, Azerbaijani para-taekwondo athlete Sabir Zeynalov claimed a bronze medal in the men's 58kg category at the Paris 2024 Summer Paralympics in France.
Zeynalov earned his medal after a decisive 12-3 victory against Tanwa Kaenkham of Thailand in the third-place match of the K44 category, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
This achievement marks Azerbaijan's first medal at the Paris Paralympics.
The Paris 2024 Summer Paralympics, officially known as the Jeux Paralympiques d'été de 2024, is the 17th edition of the Summer Paralympic Games.
Governed by the International Paralympic Committee, the event is taking place in Paris, France, from August 28 to September 8, 2024. This is the first time Paris has hosted the Summer Paralympics and the second time France has hosted the Paralympic Games, with the 1992 Winter Paralympics previously being held in Tignes and Albertville.
The 2024 Games feature over 4,000 athletes from around the world competing in 549 medal events.
