Azerbaijan, South Korea step up economic, security partnership
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov hosted a delegation led by Joo Hyun-baek, the Special Envoy of the Korean Foreign Minister, as both countries discussed avenues to deepen bilateral relations.
The talks focused on enhancing cooperation across political, trade and economic, educational, and high-tech sectors, with both sides emphasizing the importance of intensifying mutual visits and engagements, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.
Officials highlighted the role of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation and regular political consultations between their foreign ministries. The meeting also marked a forward-looking acknowledgment that 2027 will commemorate 35 years of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and South Korea.
FM Bayramov and the delegation exchanged views on Azerbaijan’s broader cooperation with Central Asian countries, noting the strategic importance of strengthening interregional links, expanding transport and logistics infrastructure, and deepening economic partnerships.
The Azerbaijani foreign minister provided updates on the country’s major energy and transport projects, including plans for exporting energy from alternative sources. He also outlined post-conflict recovery and reconstruction efforts in territories recently liberated from occupation.
Regional and international security issues were also discussed, including the evolving situation in the Middle East. The South Korean delegation expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s role in facilitating the evacuation of its citizens from Iran through Azerbaijani territory.
