Azerbaijan wins second gold at 3rd CIS Games
Azerbaijani sambist Nihad Rahimov (64 kg) claimed a gold medal at the Third CIS Games.
In the final, Ragimov faced Artyom Karisov of Russia. After defeating his opponent, Ragimov stood atop the highest step of the podium, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Adding to the medal haul, Sadiq Nadirov (79 kg) earned a bronze medal in the 79 kg category. In the bronze medal match, Nadirov defeated Nurdaulet Kosherbay of Kazakhstan to secure a podium finish.
Earlier, sambist Abdullatif Musaev (53 kg) secured victory over Gamzat Maksetbaev of Uzbekistan in his final match.
The III CIS Games are being held from September 28 to October 8, 2025, across eight cities in Azerbaijan, including Ganja, Mingachevir, Gabala, Sheki, Goygol, Ganja, and Baku. A total of 1,624 athletes from 13 countries are participating in 23 sports, with 246 sets of medals up for grabs. The Games are organised under the auspices of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and are considered a significant event in the region's sporting calendar.
