Azerbaijani ambassador to Kenya highlights strengthening of bilateral cooperation

24 February 2024 10:05

Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Kenya Sultan Hajiyev in an interview with the Kenyan KTN News has affirmed the two countries’ keenness to strengthen relations.

“Azerbaijan and Kenya are keen to further strengthen bilateral relations,” Hajiyev said, Report informs.

Noting that Kenya hosted the African Climate Summit last year, the ambassador recalled that Azerbaijan along with the UAE and Brazil announced the formation of a functional Troika to help achieve the goals of the climate agenda.

"We want to make sure that we strengthen each other. We learn from each other, and utilize both achievements and best practices. The main thing is to make sure that our goals are fully achieved," the Ambassador emphasized.

According to him, Azerbaijan is now working with a wide range of partners, which is of vital importance: "This is a very important process, which is based on the experience gained so far. It should be recalled that the decision to hold COP29 in Azerbaijan was made a little later than usual. While the decision to hold COP30 in Brazil was taken in May, the decision to hold COP29 in Baku became known only in December last year".

According to the ambassador, Azerbaijan will do everything necessary to make the event a success: "At COP29 it is planned to agree on a new collective climate finance target for developing countries".

Ambassador Hajiyev emphasized that African countries have a lot to offer given their accumulated experience in this field: "I am sure that there are other countries that can contribute to the formation of the agenda, making it even richer".

The Ambassador also pointed to Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement: "Our country has been very active as a chairing country. Azerbaijan presented a number of interesting initiatives regarding the Parliamentary Network and the Youth Organization of the Non-Aligned Movement. The fact is that we try to actively exchange information with many partners around the world. And the fact that Azerbaijan has opened an embassy in Kenya is another example that our country pursues an active foreign policy based on mutual interest".
