Azerbaijan steps up protection of critical information infrastructure
The State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan, in collaboration with the State Service for Special Communications and Information Security (SSSCIS), is intensifying efforts to safeguard the country’s critical information infrastructure, according to an official statement provided to Caliber.Az.
These measures are being carried out in line with national legislation, presidential decrees, and decisions of the Cabinet of Ministers. A joint commission has been established, consisting of representatives from both the SSS and the SSSCIS, to conduct systematic, timely, and continuous inspections to ensure compliance with general and sector-specific security rules by government agencies.
The initiative aims to identify vulnerabilities that may pose threats to national and public security. Based on the Commission’s findings, an assessment will be made of the measures taken by critical infrastructure entities to address these shortcomings.
The Commission will also produce regular reports on its work. In cases where potential security breaches are discovered, urgent corrective actions will be proposed.
Under Presidential Decree No. 1315, signed on April 17, 2021, the SSS has been designated as the authorised body responsible for ensuring the security of critical information infrastructure, including combating cyber threats. For government agencies, public legal entities established on behalf of the state, and state-owned companies, these responsibilities are carried out jointly with the SSPSCIS.
