Cultural capital reborn: Multi-story apartments under construction in Shusha PHOTO
The city of Shusha, Azerbaijan’s cultural capital, is undergoing a period of active construction and development. In addition to the restoration of historical and cultural heritage, infrastructure projects are being implemented, and new residential buildings are being constructed to allow former displaced persons to return home.
The first residential complex in Shusha was put into operation in 2024, with 23 buildings providing housing for returning families. Construction of multi-story buildings is currently underway in the D3 and D4 residential areas.
An Azertag correspondent visited the D3 residential area, where multi-story buildings are being erected. Rza Abdullaev, Head of the Shusha State Historical and Architectural Reserve, stated that 17 multi-story buildings are planned for D3. At the first stage, 10 buildings are under construction, while the remaining seven will be built in the second stage after preparatory work is completed.
The buildings in D3 will be five and six stories high. The first stage includes 381 apartments, and the second stage will have 127 apartments. The apartments will feature two to five rooms. Each building will be equipped with elevators and underground parking. The architectural style of the buildings reflects the traditional style of Shusha. The complex will also include playgrounds, green spaces, and artificial ponds for rainwater collection.
Construction workers note that they work with joy and pride, contributing to the restoration of liberated territories. Shusha resident Parviz Veliyev shared his impressions: “I was born in Shusha in 1991. I have been living here with my family for a year. It is a great honor for me to participate in building the residential houses of my native city. My work is my contribution to the revival of Shusha.”
Currently, the installation of reinforced concrete structures continues at the D3 and D4 residential sites, with work proceeding actively and to a high standard.
