Azerbaijani athletes compete in Belgium, Spain over weekend Para swimmer wins silver
Azerbaijani athletes have been competing in several international sporting events this weekend, including the Para Swimming World Series in Barcelona and the Belgian Open taekwondo tournament.
The swimming competition is taking place from March 19 to 22 in Spain, where Azerbaijani para swimmer Ali Valiyev secured a silver medal. Competing in the S10 category of the Men’s 100m freestyle, he finished with a time of 1 minute 0.41 seconds, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The event features multi-class races and brings together 238 athletes from 39 countries over four days.

While Valiyev has already concluded his participation with a shining performance, Azerbaijan’s national taekwondo team will compete on March 21–22 in Lommel.
A total of 30 athletes are representing Azerbaijan at the event, including 19 juniors and 11 senior competitors across both men’s and women’s categories. The team is led by national coaches Farida Azizova and Aykhan Taghizade.
The Belgian Open is one of the most prestigious international taekwondo tournaments, bringing together athletes from dozens of countries across Europe and beyond each year. The competition serves as an important platform for gaining international experience, earning ranking points, and preparing for major events, including the European and World Championships.
Azerbaijani taekwondo athletes have consistently delivered strong results on the international stage in recent years. Participation in the Belgian tournament will allow younger athletes to test themselves in a competitive environment, while more experienced competitors aim to confirm their form ahead of upcoming qualification cycles.
