Azerbaijani athletes compete in five disciplines at Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh
On November 10, Azerbaijani athletes will compete in five disciplines at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh.
Thus, swimmers Maryam Javadova, Abdurrahman Rustamov, Anastasia Boborykina, Yegor Maynitskiy, Ramil Valizade, Vlastilina Khasyanova, and Mehri Abdurrahmanli will represent Azerbaijan in various events, along with a mixed relay team comprising two men and two women, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
In table tennis, Azerbaijan’s women’s national team will face Egypt in the semi-finals, while the national judo team is set to meet Saudi Arabia in the quarter-finals. Weightlifter Ravid Almammadov (79kg) will begin his competition in the group stage.
Four Azerbaijani boxers will also fight in their final bouts on November 10. Nargiz Zeynalova (54kg) will face Ayşen Taşkın of Türkiye, Saidjamshid Jafarov (80kg) will meet Sultan Osmanlı of Türkiye, Aynur Mikayilova (57kg) will take on Khumorabonu Mamajonova of Uzbekistan, and Mahammadali Gasimzade (60kg) will compete against Madiyar Daniyarov, also from Uzbekistan.
The Islamic Solidarity Games will conclude on November 21. To date, Azerbaijani athletes have won 17 medals — two gold, three silver, and twelve bronze — placing the country sixth in the overall medal standings.
