Azerbaijani athletes secure 11 medals at Paris Summer Paralympics

Azerbaijani athletes have achieved remarkable success at the Paris Summer Paralympic Games, securing a total of 11 medals, including 4 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze.

Imameddin Khalilov won gold in parataekwondo (70 kg), while long jumpers Said Najafzade and Orkhan Aslanov triumphed in the T12 and T13 categories, respectively, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

Lamiya Veliyeva set a new world record, claiming gold in the 100m race and silver in the 400m.

Raman Salei added to Azerbaijan’s medal tally with a silver in the 100m backstroke and two bronze medals in the 100m freestyle and butterfly events. Sabir Zeynalov (parataekwondo, 58 kg), Veli Israfilov (100m breaststroke), and Ilham Zakiev (parajudo, +90 kg) also won bronze medals.

The Paralympic Games are set to conclude on September 8.

The Paralympic Games programme includes 22 sports and 23 disciplines with 549 events taking place across 269 sessions from 28 August to 8 September. The 23 disciplines are blind football, boccia, goalball, Para archery, Para athletics, Para badminton, Para canoe, Para cycling road, Para cycling track, Para equestrian (Para dressage), Para judo, Para powerlifting, Para rowing, Para swimming, Para table tennis, Para taekwondo, Para triathlon, shooting Para sport, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair rugby and wheelchair tennis.
