Azerbaijani boxer hopes to hear country’s anthem in France again

Azerbaijani boxer Alfonso Dominguez has expressed his desire to hear the Azerbaijani anthem play in Paris once again.

The boxer spoke about reaching the semifinals in boxing at the Olympics in France, Caliber.Az reports citing the local media.

"The boxing match was tough. However, I have already grabbed a bronze medal. I am proud to have won a medal in two consecutive Olympic Games for the first time in Azerbaijan's history. My goal is to win the gold medal," he said.

Dominguez gained a victory over Kazakh boxer Aybek Oralbay in the under 92 kg weight category, advancing to the semifinals and grabbed a bronze medal. His opponent in the semifinals will be Spanish boxer Enmanuel Reyes Pla.

The official opening ceremony of 2024 Olympic Games was held in France on July 26, and the Games will run through August 11.

The initial medal events were held on July 27. The Closing Ceremonies will be held after the final events August 11.

Breaking, the competitive form of break dancing, is the only new sport that has been added by Paris organisers. There are two breaking events, one each for men and women, with 16 dancers in each event.

Four of the sports added to the Tokyo Olympics — skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing and 3x3 basketball — were received enthusiastically and return this year.
