Azerbaijani boxer takes Olympic silver
Azerbaijani boxer Alfonso Dominguez, competing in the 92 kg weight class at the Paris 2024 Olympics, faced Uzbek fighter Lazizbek Mullozhonov in the final match and was defeated with a score of 0:5, thus earning the silver medal.
This achievement complements his bronze medal performance at the Tokyo 2020 Games, Caliber.Az reports.
In other notable results for Azerbaijan, judoists Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg) and Zelim Kotsoyev (100 kg) both claimed gold medals, while taekwondo Gasym Magomedov (58 kg) secured a silver medal.
Greco-Roman wrestler Khasrat Jafarov (67 kg) also added a bronze medal to the tally.
Additionally, Azerbaijani freestyle wrestler Giorgi Meshvildishvili, competing in the 125 kg category, was defeated 0:7 by Geno Petriashvili of Georgia in the semifinals. Meshvildishvili will compete today for a chance to win the bronze medal.
