Azerbaijani chess players head to Doha for $1 million FIDE Rapid, Blitz Championships

A team of 14 Azerbaijani chess players will take part in the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships, which are scheduled to be held in Doha, Qatar, from December 25 to 31.

According to Azerisport, the country will be represented by both men’s and women’s teams at the prestigious event, where the total prize fund stands at $1 million.

The men’s team includes Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Teymur Rajabov, Eltaj Safarli, Rauf Mammadov, Nijat Abbasov, Magomed Muradli and Aydin Suleymanli.

The women’s team will feature Gunay Mammadzade, Ulviyya Fataliyeva, Gulnar Mammadova, Govhar Beydullayeva, Khanim Balajayeva, Zeynab Mammadyarova and Turkan Mammadyarova.
