Azerbaijani FM informs Slovenian counterpart on border delimitation with Armenia
Azerbaijan and Slovenia have discussed the peace process in the South Caucasus and the post-conflict situation in the region following the liberation of Azerbaijani territories from Armenian occupation during a meeting in Baku.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov made the remarks at a joint press conference with his Slovenian counterpart Tanja Fajon following their talks in the capital, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Bayramov said that the main focus of the meeting was the peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan, the text of which was agreed upon in March of this year.
He recalled that Azerbaijan had put forward legitimate demands for signing a final peace agreement with Armenia, including constitutional amendments in Armenia to eliminate territorial claims against Azerbaijan and the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group.
Bayramov said he briefed the Slovenian minister on the border delimitation process with Armenia, emphasising the importance of establishing a direct transport connection between the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and other parts of the country.
He also said the meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on the sidelines of the diplomatic forum in Antalya last week was quite productive.
Talking about the meeting of deputy ministers of the three South Caucasus countries in Tbilisi, Bayramov said this meeting was a confirmation of the new realities in the region.
Let's note that in April 2024, Armenia agreed to return four villages—Baghanis Ayrum, Ashagi Askipara, Kheyrimli, and Gizilhajili—to Azerbaijan. These villages had been under Armenian control since the early 1990s. This agreement marked the first instance of territory being returned through bilateral talks and advanced the delimitation of a section of the state border.
By late 2024, approximately 13 km of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border had been delimited and demarcated. This progress was achieved through the efforts of joint border commissions from both countries
